I just read your story. As one who, many years ago, was tasked with the duty of performing ‘Next of Kin Notifications’ after having served as an infantry officer in a combat zone, and who does not want to know the names of of those he knew that did not survive so they can live on in my memory as if they are alive, I was extremely impressed with your insight.
